Becoming a Team Leader A Workshop for Student-Athletes Presenter: Dr. Cory Dobbs
Student-athletes face a variety of challenges in exercising leadership on their teams. This dynamic workshop for team captains and team leaders addresses leadership challenges faced by student-athletes and explores strategies for becoming an effective team leader.
The Becoming a Team Leader Workshop involves a comprehensive program of activities designed to help student-athletes transfer newly learned skills, knowledge, and abilities to real and immediate situations. This workshop is designed to help student-athletes understand the role and responsibilities of a team leader. Workshops are half-day or full day and delivered on-site so your student-athletes have a home field advantage.
Your student-athletes will be introduced to The Academy for Sport Leadership’s Leadership Development Model (LDM). The Academy’s LDM is a unique, context specific, framework upon which student-athletes can build a solid leadership foundation.
A variety of teaching methods are used including presentation and interactive activities. Participants will engage in meaningful discourse, reflection, discussion, and personal inventories. Your student-athletes will learn how to apply core leadership principles to navigate leadership challenges that surface throughout a competitive season and beyond. The end result is your student-athletes are prepared to take on a variety of leadership roles now and in the future.
